PY RX4770M6 VSAN Ready Node for SAP HANA

it would be nice to have a VMware vSAN Ready Node configuration based on the PRIMERGY RX4770 M6 (3rd Gen Intel Xeon SP - Cooper Lake) for the usage of SAP HANA on VMware VSAN technology.


Example configuration:


PRIMERGY RX4770 M6

    CPU options: 4x Intel Xeon SP Platinum 8360H(L) (24C, 3,0 GHz) or Gold 8328H(L), maybe up to the top end SKU 8380H(L) with 28 cores

  • ☑

    Memory options: 24x 64 GB (1,5 TB), 24x 128 GB (3 TB), 48x 128 GB (6 TB) or 48x 256 GB (12 TB)

  • ☑

    NVMe only SSDs for caching and capacity tier - no stupid SAS controller anymore! - option for 750 GB P4800X Optane as caching tier

  • ☑

    RoCE v2 capable network cards (e.g. Dual-Port OCPv3/PCIe Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx for 25 Gbps and OCPv3/PCIe ConnectX-6 Dx Single/Dual for 100G Ethernet) - when vSphere 7.0 U2 is supported for SAP HANA, you can use RDMA for vSAN traffic!!

This system would be a unique selling point for Fujitsu because there is actually no competitor that offers a 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Cooper-Lake (6 UPI links) based 12 TB RAM beast for SAP HANA applications together with high speed NVMe storage and VMware VSAN with RDMA support over 25 or 100G RoCE.

    RX4770 M6 was released for SAP HANA on vSAN in October 2021 - sorry for the late update here.

    Maybe also of interest for you: this month we have released RX2540 M6 for SAP HANA on vSAN. We are currently the only vendor having certified Cooper Lake and Ice Lake servers for SAP HANA on vSAN!

    Dear Simon,

    thank you for sharing your idea! And indead, we are already working on the SAP HANA HCI certification of RX24470 M6 for vSAN. But as there have to be passted different certification levels step by step, we expect the official release not before Q3 2021.
