Scope: actual we have 12 sidecar racks from BS2000 in production with 16 to 18 AU254 (PRIMERGY RX2540 M4+M5) each. Additionally 4 new fully equipped sidecar racks are in pipeline. So at the end of this year we have about 284 AU254 in place.
The department DCS maintains the complete IT infrastructure of the public fiscal authorities offices of 6 federal states.
We are developing our own datacenter automation tool based on Ansible to automate most of the workflows. For update management we need a better integration of ISM within Ansible (Version 2.9).
In particular we need:
- Providing a collection which supports actual version of Ansible (2.9), Python (3.6) and ISM (2.7)
=> simple way of using the released python modules
=> idempotency of Ansible and/or python modules
- Ideally an open community to share Ansible modules of the ISM via GitHub (the repository available on github is out of date) or import a valid collection to Ansible galaxy (https://galaxy.ansible.com/docs/contributing/index.html)
- better and complete documentation of the Rest API of the ISM (which seems to be a very good implementation of the functionality of the WebGUI)
in particular:
documentation of mandatory and optional fields and their default settings for example 4.3.1 Node Registration => [Request Parameter] => RackInfo part => It is required yes or no?
documentation of variable declaration and their restrictions (Which parameters are possible?)
Better Error handling: Many generic exceptions in the way: There is a problem without referencing which parameter is missing.

This month we started the discussion about the new sidecars based on M7 servers which should be delivered in the next year. So the question of this customer arised again: Is the collection published on github viable for the M7 generation?
What is status for this topic?
The request for Ansible Integration came up again, is there a new status on this?
Thank you Mr. Kolrep for this valid idea. This idea will be further discussed with the development team for future improvements in ISM.
First important step in the development to a simplified automation management. This definitely secures the further procurement of X86 infrastructure in millions of sales in the future. Very important is the willingness of the end customer to cooperate is very important, which also serves as a blueprint for further projects in the area of public clients.
Support for Ansible is nowadays a must-have, not nice-to-have!
